Abebe Fantaw
Phd Student
I have acquired my Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Gondar and my master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from EiABC-AAU (Ethiopian Institute of Architecture and Building Materials and City Planning-Addis Ababa University). I have participated in and led several architectural projects involving the design and planning of buildings, landscapes, and urban development processes. My master’s research, titled “Increasing the publicness of riversides as public space development on Kebena River, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.” identified the potentials and challenges of open spaces for public space development along the riversides, focusing on sustainable design and green spaces, to contribute towards climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. I am currently enrolled in the PhD program in ‘Smart Cities’ under the supervision of Professor Girma Bitsuamlak at Western University. My research will focus on sustainable design, climate-responsiveness in design, and energy conservation in a systems thinking approach, aiming to establish collaboration with other disciplines.
